How Was School

Privacy Policy

Effective October 7, 2026

How Was School is operated by Roc City Mining Corp, d/b/a How Was School ("we"). It helps parents and guardians see their children's schoolwork in one place. This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it, and how to delete it. It covers howwasschool.com and the daily email.

The short version

Who this is for

How Was School is for parents, guardians and other adults they invite, such as a co-parent or tutor. Accounts are for adults 18 and over. Children don't create accounts or use the app. We collect information about a child only from the parent or guardian who adds them, and from the school accounts that parent chooses to connect.

What we collect

Your account. Your email address, the name you give us, and a phone number if you add one. You sign in with a code we email you; there is no How Was School password.

Your children. What you enter when you add a child: first name, grade, school and school district, and optionally the district student ID.

School logins you connect. The username and password for your child's school accounts (for example the district's grades portal and ClassLink). The password is locked in your own browser before it is sent, is stored encrypted, and can be opened only by our automated sign-in service, which uses it to read your child's information. No one can view it again, including you and us.

School information we read for you. Class grades, assignments, missing and upcoming work, due dates, teacher comments, assignment instructions and class files, state and district test results, and the school photo shown in the grades portal. If you switch them on, also information from school apps such as IXL, Schoology, Savvas, Big Ideas Math and Performance Matters (for example assigned practice, scores and what's overdue). We keep a copy so the app works when you open it.

Teacher contact details. Teachers' school email addresses from the school district's public staff directory, so you can email a teacher from your own email. We prepare the draft; you decide whether to send it.

How you use the app. When you're signed in, we record what you do in the app, such as which pages and tabs you open, when you tap Refresh or mark work completed, and which apps you switch on or off, plus when we last saw you. This records only event names, dates, which child it was about (by an internal number, never a name), and short codes. It never records what you type, names, emails, or school information. We use it only to understand how the app is used and to make it better. The demo is never recorded.

Payments. Payments are handled by our payment provider, Creem. We see your plan and its status, never your card number.

On your device. We use cookies to keep you signed in, and your browser's storage to remember small choices like which email app you use. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

How we use it

Who can see it

We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't share it with advertisers or data brokers.

How we protect it

Information is sent over encrypted connections and stored with access controls, so each person can see only the children they were added to. School passwords are encrypted as described above. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe and will tell you if something happens that affects it.

Keeping and deleting it

Your choices

You can review and change what's shown for each child, turn off the daily email, remove adults or tutors you invited, and ask us to correct or delete your information. As your child's parent or guardian, you can see everything we hold about your child in the app.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and ask you to agree to the new version the next time you use the app.
